New Merc SLK to get diesel engine option

TheAutoInsider can confirm the new Mercedes-Benz SLK, codenamed R172 and pictured here in prototype form, will be the first modern day roadster from the German car maker to be sold with a diesel engine, at least in Europe where the 2.1-litre four-cylinder SLK250 CDI is planned to join the line-up around six months after initial gasoline versions go on sale in March 2011.






The new line-up looks like this:
SLK200 Blue Efficiency, 184bhp, 270Nm, 6.4L/100km
SLK250 Blue Efficiency, 204bhp, 310Nm, 6.2L/100km
SLK350 Blue Efficiency, 306bhp, 370Nm, 7.1L/100km
SLK55 AMG, 422 PS, further details to follow
SLK250 CDI Blue Efficiency, 204bhp, 500Nm, further details to follow
