Few icons are as quintessentially British as the Union Jack and the Caterham Seven. Originally engineered by Lotus, the 7 is still built by British sportscar-maker Caterham, and has now been outfitted for a special edition by British fashion house Lambretta.
The British-owned fashion label, which is based in London’s famous Carnaby Street, has drawn on its characteristic flair and rich heritage in popular culture to create a bespoke, custom-tailored Caterham, which screams ‘Britannia’. The body paint, decals and livery leave you in no doubt of its geographic heritage with the Union Jack’s unmistakable hue of red, white and blue dressing the paintwork.
Under the skin, the engineering is pure Caterham.
Powered by a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine, which pushes out 125bhp, the 2010 Caterham Special Edition Seven Sport Cars By Lambretta can call upon 120lbs ft of torque to propel its lightweight frame to 60mph in six seconds. The marriage of a quick-fire five-speed gearbox, with a purposeful chassis, provides the responsiveness and handling characteristics every Seven is famous for.
Available immediately, the 2010 Caterham Special Edition Seven Sport Cars By Lambretta is priced at £26,995 OTR. Lambretta’s managing director, Rob Harmer explained: “Designing the exterior and interior of a car is an entirely different challenge to our core business of fashion and accessories, but there are clearly some shared philosophies between the two companies, which made this collaboration so exciting.”

2010 Caterham Sport Cars Seven Roadsport 125 Monaco

Manufacturer of specialist lightweight sports cars, Caterham Cars, announced the latest Special Edition. The Lotus Seven, and the Caterham Seven have been around for 53 years, it is still one of the basic and quintessential sports cars made. The Seven was never about power, it was about lightweight, minimalistic driving, and it remains true to it’s roots today. Caterham Cars is evoking the elegance, class and rich motorsport heritage of Monte Carlo with the latest Special Edition of its similarly timeless sportscar, the 2010 Caterham Sport Cars Seven Roadsport 125 Monaco.
The latest incarnation of Caterham’s iconic Seven, the Roadsport 125 Monaco, remains true to the original design by Colin Chapman in 1957. The Monaco features the British automaker’s brushed aluminum bodywork, with black nose and wheel guards. The familiar red and white of the Monegasque flag, the official flag of Monaco, form a motif that runs the length of the car, which takes us back to the golden era of motorsport.

Caterham have kept the car fresh by producing several special editions over the years and this Monaco Edition is the latest. Powered by a 1.6 liter Ford four cylinder, it produces 125 horsepower and 120 ft/lb of torque, which should be entertaining since the car only weighs 1,100-1,200 pounds! According to Caterham the car is good for a six second 0-60 run and a top speed of 112mph.
Under the skin, the engineering is pure Caterham. The 1.6-litre Ford engine produces a top speed of 112mph and a power-to-weight ratio of 227bhp per tonne. The 5-speed gearbox propels the lightweight 500kg chassis from 0-60mph in under six seconds and full weather kit means the Roadsport is thoroughly enjoyable in any conditions.
The Roadsport 125 Monaco options include the wide SV chassis and a lowered floor for extra comfort in the cockpit. The company added that the all black trim is also available for the customers to choose from.
For just £20,995, the Roadsport 125 Monaco combines Caterham’s thrilling performance and driving experience with a unique touch of European flare and glamour. However, the first 20 cars to be ordered are available for just £19,995.

Caterham and RS Performance Build Caterham RS

Caterham is already well known for making some insanely fast vehicles, and now the company has announced an official performance arm. Teaming up with RS Performance, the company has managed to squeeze 500+ horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque out of a 2.4L supercharged V8 engine. Considering the Caterham RS Seven only weighs 520kgs, 0-60 mph times should take less than 3 seconds. The power to weight ratio is a Bugatti beating 1000hp per ton, however top speed is limited to 150 mph.

For those less adventures souls among us, the company will also offer a naturally aspirated version which will produce 380 hp and 190 ft-lbs of torque. Handling all this raw power is an advanced electronics system which includes traction and launch control. To help keep weight down, the Caterham RS features extensive use of carbon fiber and Kevlar seats.

A twelve week waiting period is required for production and potential owners should be prepared to handover at least £115,000.
    Press Release

Caterham announces official performance arm: powerhouse V8 engine delivers 1,000 plus bhp-per-tonne

For those wanting an expression of British sportscar exclusivity, Caterham Cars has joined forces with RS Performance to offer the ultimate in bespoke Seven coachbuilding. Caterham has long been the epitome of personalised motoring with almost every version of the 12,000 Sevens on the road differing from one another. The joint venture takes that famous philosophy to an altogether new level.

RS Performance is an exclusive, niche engineering house. Born out of the passion and pedigree of its founder, Russell Savory, it will offer an ‘everything is possible’ service to Caterham customers wanting cars truly ‘built to order’.

Using the motorsport-honed Caterham chassis and benchmark technology as a cosmetic and engineering base, RS Performance, will “turn imagination into reality,” says Savory.

The heartbeat of every RS-monikered Seven will be the unique RST-V8 engine. With more than 16 years of development behind it by Russell Savory, the 40-valve, 2.4 litre engine reliably delivers an incredible 400bhp in normally aspirated mode, or over 500bhp as a supercharged varient, whilst weighing only 90kg in full running gear.

The unbridled lightness of the RST-V8 matched to the already featherweight Seven chassis delivers a power-to-weight ratio of over 1000bhp per tonne – more than double of a Bugatti Veyron. This unique partnership will be open to customers looking for the ultimate in exclusivity, and carry a price tag to reflect the tailoring, detail and hand-built craftsmanship that will go into every RS-badged Caterham.

Validation of the engineering house’s abilities comes in the form of the supercharged ‘Levante’. This is the first Seven to rollout of RS Performance’s Hertfordshire doors and which only seven more of this type will be available.

With a 12 week waiting time and costing over £115,000, this supercharged engineering masterpiece boasts a modern interpretation of the Seven’s classic looks with a sophisticated electronics package with traction and launch control to help get the phenomenal power to the floor. Weight reduction runs throughout the car, from the carbon fibre interior finished with Kevlar seats down to the hosing used on the cooling systems
The RS Performance badge will sit alongside the established, and soon to be expanded, Ford powered Caterham Seven range.

“Caterham and Russell Savory have a long history, and this seemed a natural progression of that relationship and shared engineering philosophy,” explained Ansar Ali, Caterham Cars managing director.
