McLaren has denied reports that its major shareholder Mercedes-Benz has fired team principal Ron Dennis from the ultra-successful Formula One team. Two statements released by both parties say Ron is still the man at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team. Spanish newspaper Marca first reported on this.
"The reports are pure speculation," a Mercedes spokesman is quoted as saying by the German broadcaster RTL.
"The fact is, the well-known status-quo remains, and this means an unchanged management team," he added.
F1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone also squashed the rumours.
"He's [Dennis] not an employee," Ecclestone told the Mirror. "He's a shareholder and he had internal support from other shareholders."
Meanwhile, yet another quiet storm is brewing from under the noses of McLaren as Italian investigators say they have collected much evidence and found where responsibility for the spygate scandal that rocked F1’s very foundations in 2007, lies. This after McLaren managers were questioned by the Italian authorities on Thursday. They even went as far as “visiting” the homes of Dennis, CEO Martin Whitmarsh, engineering director Paddy Lowe and senior men Rob Taylor and Jonathan Neale.
