GENEVA — The "even more" count is high as Lamborghini unveils the latest version of its Murciélago at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show. The automaker is calling it an "exceptionally purist and even more extreme" version. The Murciélago LP670-4 SuperVeloce is tweaked to become "even more powerful, lighter and faster" than the already fearsome Murciélago LP640.
The all-wheel-drive SuperVeloce gets a 670-horsepower version of the 6.5-liter V12 engine, making 487 pound-feet of torque. It's capable of taking the supercar to 60 mph in less than 3.2 seconds and on to a 212-mph top speed. A sequential automatic transmission with e-gear electrohydraulics is standard, and a six-speed manual transmission is a no-cost option.
The car has been reworked inside and out to cut weight, which is down 220 pounds, giving the SuperVeloce a 5.1-pound-per-hp weight-to-power ratio. A new front and rear design, a transparent engine cover and a choice of a small or large rear spoiler, depending on which aerodynamic setup is selected, further distinguish this model from the LP640. The brakes get added air intakes and there's a "noble, flat and extremely wide" tailpipe in back.
The "purist and minimalist" interior is filled with carbon fiber and Alcantara trim, including carbon fiber seats upholstered in black Alcantara rather than leather to cut weight.
Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann calls the SuperVeloce "more extreme and uncompromising than virtually any other automobile." Only 350 copies will be built.
