2009 Hyundai Accent

    2009 Hyundai Accent

Ju-Yung Chung established an auto repair shop, Hyundai Auto Service, in Seoul, South Korea in 1946. The corporate symbol, a stylized “H” meant to represent the company and its customers shaking hands, is still used today. Though the name “Hyundai” translates to “modern” in English, its first vehicles were anything but.

Founded in 1967, Hyundai Motor Company signed an agreement with Ford to assemble its Cortina and Granada models through 1976 for the Korean market, and used the opportunity to learn all it could about producing automobiles from an established automaker. The South Korean government, however, wanted to spur economic growth by underwriting the production of Korean-designed vehicles, and Hyundai--along with Daewoo, Kia and Ssangyong--took up the challenge.

Italy’s ItalDesign was tapped to style the Hyundai Pony, and Hyundai contracted former British Leyland managers to oversee the car’s development. Powered by a Mitsubishi inline four-cylinder engine, the Pony proved to be an export success in Europe but never made it to the U.S. That would have to wait until the Excel was launched in 1985. This small front-drive hatchback and sedan cost just $4,995 and sold 126,000 units in its first year--its low price largely atoned for its less than stellar initial quality. Back home, Hyundai continued to work closely with Mitsubishi, leaning on the Japanese company for powertrain and development expertise.

By 1990, the fast-moving automaker had erected a plant in Bromont, Quebec, Canada, and introduced its first all-Hyundai design, the Sonata. Though styled by ItalDesign and still using elements of Mitsubishi’s engine designs, the Sonata was aimed squarely at the U.S. market, and included both an inline four-cylinder and a V-6 engine. It was soon joined by a coupe version of the Excel, called the Scoupe, that used Hyundai’s first all-Korean engine design, the Alpha. In 1991, it was joined by the Elantra, an in-house complement to the aging Excel that was powered by Hyundai’s 1.6-liter Beta engine. From this point on, Hyundai was a full-service automaker.

By the time the Accent replaced the Excel in 1995, both the Sonata and Elantra were on their second generation, the Scoupe was ready to be replaced by the Tiburon, and the Delta V-6 was in development. However, the 1997 Asian financial crisis led to the merger of Hyundai and Kia.

DaimlerChrysler purchased 10.5% of Hyundai-Kia in 2000 and sold the stake four years later, but that ultimately didn’t alter Hyundai’s trajectory. Hyundai moved forward with plans for the 3.0- and 3.5-liter Sigma V-6s, increased its quality control efforts, entered the crossover market with the Santa Fe, and opened a plant in Alabama in 2005. In addition, it opened or expanded research and development centers in Ann Arbor, Mich., and Frankfurt, Germany, and a design center in Irvine, Calif.

In 2008, Hyundai moved beyond the near-luxury segment populated by its Azera sedan and Veracruz crossover, and introduced the Genesis, a rear-drive V-8-powered sedan that will spawn a rear-drive replacement for the front-drive Tiburon. Both underline the promise of the English translation of the company’s name.

Car Gallery : "2009 Hyundai i20 3-door"

    Car Gallery :
The three-door i20 is available to order now, with the first examples arriving in UK showrooms in April.

Hyundai has revealed the first picture of the new i20 three-door, ahead of its official unveiling at the Geneva motor show on March 3rd.

Building on the success of the recently launched Hyundai i20 five-door, the new body style will broaden the i20’s appeal to the fastest-growing sector of the car market in Europe.

In addition to a stylish new look, the three-door model offers a lower price entry point for the i20 line-up with prices starting at just £8,195 for the 1.2 Classic model - that’s £450 less than the five-door.

Positioned between the successful i10 and i30 models, the i20 three-door shares many of its styling features with the five-door. In fact the front and rear remains unchanged, but the distinctive crease lines that run along each side are enhanced by the longer front doors and the sporty, upswept shape of the rear-side window.

Built on the same 2.525mm wheelbase and weighing 10-kilograms less than the i20 five-door, the new model offers an equally well proportioned exterior and spacious interior that will comfortably accommodate adult passengers in the front and rear seats.

The larger front doors create a wide entry aperture, and Hyundai’s quick-release memory seats with walk-in functionality provide easy access to and from the rear. The system enables the front-seat backrests to be tipped and the whole seat to slide forwards. This simple-to-use system returns the front seat to the originally selected position without the need for readjustment.

Safety is always at the forefront for Hyundai and the i20 has an extensive list of active and passive equipment. This includes six airbags on all models - front, side and curtain - as standard, plus active head-restraints.

Hyundai expects i20 buyers will make the 1.2-litre petrol engine - dubbed ‘Kappa’ - the best-selling power plant in the range. The new, all-alloy unit combines miserly fuel consumption with low CO2 emissions to produce a compelling package with exceptionally low running costs.

Kappa is the latest example of the company’s expertise in developing lightweight, low-NVH, super-efficient engines. With a displacement of just 1,248cc, Kappa unit develops an impressive 78PS and a class-leading torque figure of 119Nm endowing the i20 with responsive acceleration and excellent driveability.

The three-door i20 is available to order now, with the first examples arriving in UK showrooms in April.

Car News: "Hyunday" , the korean Automobile

The following are two pictures of the types of Hyunday cars. These cars are made in Korea. To know more about what Hyunday is, You can read the article below:

    Car News:

Hyundai refers to a group of companies and related organizations founded by Chung Ju-yung in South Korea. The first Hyundai company was founded in 1947 as a construction company, and the Hyundai Group eventually became South Korea's largest conglomerate company (chaebol).

    Car News:

The most well-known Hyundai organization is the Hyundai Motor Company, the world's 5th largest automaker. Hyundai Heavy Industries is the world's largest shipbuilder, and Hynix is a top semiconductor producer. Other companies currently or formerly controlled by members of Chung's extended family may be loosely referred to as a part of the Hyundai chaebol.

The Hyundai Group underwent massive restructuring following the 1997 East Asian financial crisis and the founder's death in 2001. Today, many companies bearing the Hyundai name are legally unrelated, with each company having a different chairman. Former components include Hyundai Group, Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, Hyundai Department Store Group, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, and Hyundai Development Group. After the separation, Hyundai Group focuses on elevators, container services, and tourism to Mount Kumgang.

The word "hyundai" means "modernity" in Korean, and is pronounced [çʌn.dɛ]). It is often pronounced as [hʌn.de(j)] in North America, as [haɪ.ʌn.daɪ] in the United Kingdom, as [hi.jʌn.dæɪ] in Australia, and as [ɣɛɴdai] in Japan. Early American advertising for the Hyundai Excel car informed readers that the name "rhymes with Sunday", which is the correct Korean pronunciation.
